| HOME REMEDIES FOR DOGS: FIRST : I am in no way telling you to use these remedies. You are responsible for your dog, not me. You should talk with your Vet anytime your dog falls ill. I am not responsible for you using these treatments. I am not telling you to use them. I am simply telling you some of the things that I have used in the past that have worked for me. If possible the best care of your dog is take your dog to your vet for treatment . If you use these remedies you do it at your own risk. PARVO, CORONA, DISTEMPER I have found over the years that when my pup's got Parvo, Corona, and Distemper they where pretty much dead. It didn't matter if I carried them to the Vet or not they always died. I was talking with an old Hog Hunter one time and he told me something that he done. I have since tried it many times. I have not lost a single puppy since then. AGAIN : I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DOG IF HE DIES ON YOU WHILE TRYING THIS. I AM SIMPLY TRYING TO PROVIDE ANOTHER OPTION FOR YOU TO THINK ABOUT. Okay here goes: When your dog gets Parvo, Corona, Distemper you take it to the Vet and he gives it a shot to settle its stomach and an I.V. Then he sticks it in a cage and treats the pup again before he goes home if your lucky. A puppy is very small so he dehydrates VERY fast. This is what kills your puppy. The vet starts out with good intentions but time doesn't allow him the time to treat your dog around the clock. That is why he always calls you back the next morning and says "I'm sorry but he didn't make it". The puppy dehydrates during the night and dies before morning. That is where this remedy comes in. You simple try to keep the fluids in him to pull through. Parvo doesn't kill your pup dehydration does If you get him through the 1st 24 hours then he is usually home free. (I have never had one that wasn't up and moving around after 24 hours.) This is what you need: 60 cc syringe 3 cc syringe Blender Pepto Bismol (you will need at least four bottles) Pepto is better than Kaopectate it will reduce the swelling in the intestine, Kaopectate doesn't. Eggs The dog food you usually feed Gatorade or Pedialyte (I always use Gatorade because I usually have some on hand and time is very important. You need to start getting fluids in as soon as possible.) The flavor of Gatorade doesn't matter. Water This is what you do: 1 A) - Get a 60cc syringe inject 60 cc of gatorade under the skin in three to four different spots along his back. Then do the same thing with watter. You only use watter and gatorade on the first treatment after that you rotate. He will need more the first time so give him both. It is important to rotate water with the gatorade because Gatorade will actually start to dehydrate him if he doesn't get enough watter with it. You need it to be about a 50/50 ratio. 1B) - squirt about 30-40 cc of water in his mouth. This does two things. It gives him something to throw-up ( Don't you hate when you get the dry heaves?). It will help him get rid of the "cotton mouth" you get when you throw up. Don't worry about keeping this down him. That is why you injected the other under his hide. That is the one that will keep him alive. This one is just to improve his "comfort level". Part 2 Mix : One cup of his normal dog food 1/2 a bottle of Pepto Bismol 1 egg yolk - only the yellow part - the clear part will only make his diarrhea worse. Mix enough gatorade and water to get it thin enough to squirt through the syringe (without the Needle) Squirt the food mixture down his throat about 3cc will be enough. This isn't the treatment that will save his life. The gatorade and water under the skin will do that. This is just to try and keep his strength up as much as possible. Don't worry about keeping this down he will throw it up about as quick as you can get it in him. But every little bit helps. It will also do the same thing the water did when you put that in his mouth. It will give him something to throw-up. The schedule: The schedule you give yourself is what will improve your odds of saving the dogs life. If you sit on your butt and watch TV , or you want to get 6 hours sleep then you may as well save yourself the time and just put the dog down. He will not make it if you don't take the time to do it right. The old man that told me about this treatment said to do one or the other { feed or water) every 3 hours. I do one or the other every two hours. If you have an entire litter down with it, then you can pretty much forget sleeping. You can get a bit here and there if you have someone to rotate with like a wife or a husband, or a VERY good friend. Just to make sure you understand lets say you start at 1pm doing this. 1pm - inject gatorade and water under the skin, and in the mouth 3pm - force the food mixture down his throat 5pm - inject water under the skin, and in the mouth 7pm - force the food mixture down his throat 9pm - inject gatorade under the skin, and in the mouth 11pm - force the food mixture down his throat 1am - inject water under the skin, and in the mouth 3am - force the food mixture down his throat 5am 1am - inject water under the skin, and in the mouth You should get the point by now. You simply keep this up tell he is well. I also give him 1cc of Pepto Bismol at every treatment. The puppy is throwing up everything you give him as quick as you can get it in so you wont overdose him on the Pepto by giving it to him every hour. However when he does slow down on throwing up I slow the Pepto to every other time. Like I said before I haven't lost a single pup since I started doing this. I had a litter of 11 pups come down with Parvo one time and every one lived. I was like a zombie due to lack of sleep but every pup made it. But I am not telling you to do this to your dog. I am just giving you an option that has always worked for me. Use at your own risk! HEART WORMS : I use Ivomec 1%. You can find it in your local feed store. It is used for cattle and swine. It is the same thing you are using now probably. It just doesn't have a picture of a dog on it and it costs a lot less. Heartgard Plus, and Iverhart Plus all are Ivomec products. Heartgard plus cost's $30 for a 6 month supply and you have to have a prescription. Ivomec 1% cost's $39 and it will last one 100 pound dog over 4 years depending on the dosage you use, and it doesnt require a prescription. I use 1/10th of a cc per 10 lbs, that comes out to 1cc per hundred pounds. Most people use 1/10th of a cc per 20 lbs. The ironic thing is that even though Ivomec 1% costs less than Heartgard Plus when I hit my dog up with Ivomec 1% he is getting about 10 times as much ivomec as what he would get from the Heartgard Plus. Ivomec 1% cost's $39 for 50cc. 1cc will worm a 100 pound dog ( that is twice the dosage most people use) You do the math. That comes out to 50 months (FOUR YEARS) for $39. Compare that to Heartgard Plus $30 for just six months. If you use the dosage most people use(one tenth of a cc per 20 lbs) that would be 100 months for $39. Its a pretty big difference in savings with just one dog. If you have 5 or 10 dogs it could save you a LOT OF $$$$$$$$$ just something to think about. But the thing I like about it the most is I dont have to pay an office visit to the vet to get a prescription of Heartgard Plus. I do recomend you take your dog to the vet before you start him on Ivomec though. If he has Heartworms when you give it to him it will kill the heartworms and they will release in your dogs heart and kill your dog. Snake Bite : Vitamin C can be a life saver if your dog gets bit by a snake. Some dogs don't react as bad as others. I have had dogs get bit in the neck by Rattlers and they lived, I have had other's get bit on the leg and die each dog reacts different. A good remedy I have found is to use Vitamin C. I use 1-1.5 cc subcutaneously (under the skin) on there neck . It also works with spider bites. I have also used it on myself for spider bites. You can crush up a vitamin C pill and rub it directly on the spider bite and it will help relieve the pain. Worms : I have gotten a lot of calls wanting to know what I use for intestinal worms. I use Safe-guard horse wormer. Same ingredients as Safe-guard for dogs, but costs a lot less. It has a dial on the side. If one click is for 100 pounds, then half of that would do a fifty pound dog, etc. Again, I ain't telling you to use any of these. Just telling you what I use. If you try any of these on your dog, you do it at your own risk. |
